Music Minister

(Part-Time / On-Site / Sunday Availability Required)


The Music Minister leads and coordinates the music ministry as an expression of worship that enriches the spiritual life of Arlington Street United Methodist Church.

 

Primary Areas of Ministry

  • Partner with the Pastor to plan and lead music for Sunday worship and special services throughout the year, including Christmas and Easter.

  • Provide piano accompaniment for prelude, hymns, responses, offertory, anthem, and postlude

  • Work with the choir to select appropriate anthems and service music.

  • Accompany and rehearse the choir for choral offerings. Frequency of choir participation may vary by season.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice and prepare on a schedule that ensures readiness for all services.

  • Schedule and lead choir rehearsals as needed. Rehearsal rhythm and logistics will be set collaboratively after onboarding.

  • Develop and maintain an annual calendar that notes vacations and planned absences.

  • Coordinate with the Pastor to secure qualified substitutes when absent.

  • Research and recommend music for anthems and special services such as Christmas and Easter.

Church Support

  • Maintain instruments in good condition, including regular tuning.

  • Provide access to space for music storage and rehearsals.

  • Include music needs and instrument maintenance in the annual church budget.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in piano performance for congregational worship (organ ability a plus).

  • Experience accompanying and rehearsing vocal ensembles.

  • Ability to collaborate with clergy, choir, and volunteers.

  • Reliable, organized, and committed to the worship life of the church.
